What are the preparation processes for aluminium-based alloy powder?

Aluminium alloy powder materials prepared by vacuum gas atomization have the advantages of high sphericity, good fluidity, low oxygen content, and high medium particle size yield. They are mainly used in high-end manufacturing fields such as metal additive manufacturing and sputtering targets, but production efficiency still needs to be further improved.

The general preparation process for aluminium alloy powder is gas atomization, which mainly includes air atomization, nitrogen atomization, and vacuum gas protection atomization. Among them, air atomization preparation, aluminium alloy powder materials generally have a coarse particle size, the medium particle size is about 200 mesh, and the powder is mostly spherical, rod-shaped, etc., which is the main preparation method for aluminium alloy brazing material powder.


The aluminium alloy powder prepared by nitrogen atomization has a wide range of adjustable particle size distribution. It can produce alloy powder materials required for powder metallurgy or Mim process below 500 mesh, and can also prepare coarse particle powder required for some high-end brazing. And the nitrogen atomization process has high output and is suitable for batch production. However, compared with vacuum gas atomization, the oxygen content will increase by 300-500ppm under the same particle size distribution, which is more suitable for some industries that are not sensitive to oxygen content requirements.
